 Lew Shuman, author of "15 Days of Hell: One Man's Battle for Peleliu," discusses the book at the monthly meeting of the World War II Discussion Group , at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 6, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

This event is free of charge and is open to the public.

"15 Days of Hell" is the diary and memoir of Dr. Jordan Winer and his personal un-edited words of his time as a navy corpsman on the island of Peleliu during the invasion of September 1944.

The Battle of Peleliu, code-named Operation Stalemate II by the United States military, was fought between the U.S. and the Empire of Japan during the Mariana and Palau Campaign of World War II, from September to November 1944, on the island of Peleliu.

Lew Shuman is the Director of Broadcasting for the New Orleans Pelicans. During his career, he has received four Regional Sports Emmys for NBA Basketball and Sports Production. Shuman is a U. S. Army Veteran and served with the ARMISH/MAAG as a military advisor in support of the Army of the Shah, Iran. He is the author of "Hoop Junkie, The Story of One Man's Career Working and Having Fun with Players, Coaches and Broadcasters of the NBA."

The World War II Discussion Group, headed by local teacher and historian Brian Altobello, occurs the first Thursday of every month. Members discuss the events of the 1930s and 1940s.
