Description:
Military historian Martin K.A. Morgan will discuss rare footage taken with an 8mm movie camera of the attack on Pearl Harbor at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 5, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

Morgan’s presentation occurs as part of the regularly scheduled meeting of the World War II Discussion Group which has met at the library for more than a decade. This event is free of charge and is open to the public.

Morgan is the author of Down to Earth—The 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Normandy. He is the son of a U.S. Army officer, and was born on post at Fort Gordon, Georgia—where the 82nd Division had been born 52 years earlier, in 1917. In the fifth grade, he began reading and learning about World War II and has been doing it ever since.

Morgan was among the memorial tour group that returned to Normandy in 2002 with the survivors of the 507th Parachute Infantry to dedicate the regiment's monument outside of Amfreville. During 10 days in Normandy, Morgan says he was privileged to get to know many of the men of the 507th and recorded more than 1,000 minutes of oral history interviews with them. With those interviews as its core research material, his book on the 507th is an account of the battle for Normandy that focuses on the experiences of the men who fought it.

Morgan is a resident of New Orleans where he works for the National World War II Museum by day and teaches college history at night.
