 Anita Dennis, a retired teacher and author, will lead a presentation titled “How to Write an Effective Grant Proposal,” at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Jane Chatelain O’Brien West Bank Regional Library, 2751 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey.

This event is free of charge and is open to the public.

This presentation is an overview of the basics of grant writing. It is for educators, nonprofits, and anyone interested in learning the process. Specific Content will focus on basic grant proposal components, terminology, writing style, resources for funding, and helpful tips.

Anita Woodley Dennis taught high school English for 33 years. Since her retirement in 2012, she has written two books. Her first book Reflections from the Porch, consists of poetry and prose about life and death, family and friend, and faith and optimism. Her second book, How to Write an Effective Educational Grant Proposal, is a step-by-step guide to grant writing. During her career, she has written (individually and on teams) to obtain thousands of dollars in grant funding to benefit students, schools, and communities where she taught.

Dennis received a bachelor’s degree from Southern University at New Orleans, where she majored in English Education. She also received a master’s degree from the University of New Orleans, where she majored in Curriculum and Instruction and certified as a Reading Specialist.
