Friends of the Jefferson Public Library

Event Type: Adults
Date: 9/27/2017
Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Time: 11:30 AM
Description:
The Friends of the Jefferson Public Library will hold a general meeting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, at East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. Meeting attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for the Big Book Sale, to be held Thursday, October 19 through Sunday, October 22, at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.

Carol Lynch, Garb Director for the cast of the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, will discuss men's and women's fashions of the Elizabethan Age, and what one might experience when visiting a Renaissance Festival. Lynch has served as Garb Director for several years and has been a cast member for 12 years. She will come dressed in her noble costume. She will also bring a men's outfit and another women's outfit to show the audience.

Locals may remember the Renaissance Festivals held at Metairie's LaFreniere Park in the 1980s. The current Louisiana Renaissance Festival is held on 20 acres between Hammond and Covington off highway 190. It is privately owned by two families that were, at one time, traveling performers at other Renaissance Festivals around the country. The volunteer cast entertains visitors and demonstrates pre-industrial skills. This year's festival is scheduled for November 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 24-26, and December 2, 3, 4, and 10. Their website is www.larf.net.

The meeting of the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library is free of charge and open to the public. For more information, call 504-455-2665 or e-mail friendsjpl@yahoo.com.
