 Leanne McBurney Trueheart, MD, a psychiatrist and former Mental Health Director at the St. Tammany Coroner’s Office, will discuss “Beyond Personality: Getting Psychiatry Right in Fiction,” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

Dr. Trueheart’s presentation occurs as part of the monthly meeting of Sisters in Crime, an organization that promotes the advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers, though “misters in crime” are welcomed.

This event is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration.

Created specifically for crime writers, this lecture will focus on technical aspects of psychiatry that are often overlooked or misrepresented. Topics will include psychiatric medication, involuntary hospitalization, suicide, and more.

Monthly meeting of the local chapter of Sisters in Crime. The group's mission is to promote the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers. Men are welcome to attend meetings and join the group.
