Date: 1/26/2018
Start Time: 9:00 AM

Description:
NOTE: There is one public concert. See the following information.

Christa Grix, an internationally known harpist, will be the featured performer at a public concert at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon Avenue, Metairie.

The performance is free of charge and is open to the public.

Grix will perform with other professionals and students who are attending the Fourth Annual Jazz and Pop Harp Festival on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27.

Grix says she fell under the spell of the harp during her first lesson at 16. Two years earlier, she was transfixed by live jazz during a performance at her high school. The two influences have shaped explorations and accomplishments on the instrument.

Grix has released four recordings on the Freefall Music label, Freefall (1996), Cheek to Chic (2002), Moonlight on Snow (2012) and Christa’s Presents (2014). She was a nominee for the 2013 and 2014 Detroit Music Awards as “Most Outstanding Classical Instrumentalist,” a Gigmasters.com awardee “Best of Gigmasters” in 2013 and 2014, and a finalist in the 2013 Knight Arts Challenge Detroit. Her publications of musical arrangements for harp are played by harpists worldwide.

Christa Grix currently sits on the board of the Detroit Musicians Fund, and is a past board member and executive committee member of the American Harp Society. National and international appearances include performances in Tobermory, Ontario, Tacoma, Washington, Maubege, France, Prague, Czech Republic, Monterey, Mexico, and the 2011 meeting of the World Harp Congress in Vancouver, British Columbia.
