Tugboat Talk with Captain Mark Duplantis

 Mark Duplantis, a retired tugboat captain who spent his entire career working on the Mississippi River, will discuss his hobby – making model tugboats. It happens at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie. More than 20 of his models are on display at the library, including an eight-foot tugboat on exhibit near the entrance to the gift shop. Capt. Duplantis will discuss the life of a tugboat captain, the importance of New Orleans as a port, and how river culture has changed through the years. He will also talk about a record he achieved – the only man to captain a tug with 72 barges.
