Rosemary James, author, journalist, and co-founder of the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society will speak at 10 a.m. at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

Her presentation occurs as part of the quarterly meeting of the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library. It is free of charge and open to the public.

James will speak on ""Faulkner in New Orleans."" William Faulkner lived in New Orleans off and on from 1924 until 1927, coming into contact with artist William Spratling and author Sherwood Anderson. He wrote some of his earliest short stories here, including Soldiers' Pay and Mosquitoes. While living in the French Quarter, he wrote a series of stories under the title of New Orleans Sketches. He also contributed articles to The New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Faulkner went on to write many novels set in his native Mississippi, and won the 1949 Nobel Prize for Literature.

James will also speak about the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Society.

Prior to Rosemary James' discussion, members of the Friends of the Library will hold a brief meeting to elect new officers and approve the 2018-19 budget.
