Tamalyn Dallal, The Belly Dancing Kitties of Constantinople

The Belly Dancing Kitties of Constantinople is an illustrated book for children, belly-dancers and people who love cats. It is written by Tamalyn Dallal, and each page is hand painted by Japanese artist Ayako Date.

Tamalyn Dallal has performed for numerous dignitaries. She directed the Mid-Eastern Dance Exchange, a non-profit organization, dance school and performing company, from 1990- 2007. Crowned "Miss America of the Bellydance" in 1995, she has performed or taught in 44 countries. She has written three books, and produced two music CDs of Africa's oldest band, the "Ikhwan Safaa Musical Club of Zanzibar." She currently films ethnological dance documentaries, including “Zanzibar Dance, Trance and Devotion,” which was completed in 2011. She released "Ethiopia Dances for Joy" in 2013.

Emma Lynne Perry, A Little Girl’s Journey

Three girls and their family from a war-torn area of the Middle East arrive in Gretna, Louisiana. The two older girls are fraternal twins. Once enrolled in an American school, it is apparent that they all have educational and developmental concerns. The three girls are taken in by a teacher who has volunteered to include them in her class. The students become caretakers for the girls. The sisters find a welcoming place amid an atmosphere of doubt and speculation created by others on the school campus.

Emma Lynne Perry has a bachelor's degree in vocal music, a master's degree in reading, English as a second language certification, and as she says, “other stuff.” She’s been a teacher for more than 20 years. She says she had aspirations to be a "world famous singer," but she has discovered her "hidden talent" of writing.

Kat Pigott, Flying Horses of City Park

A girl and her nana take the streetcar to City Park in New Orleans for a big day on the carousel. The "flying horses" are not only beautiful and exciting but have an interesting story behind them.

Kat Pigott has worked as a chef, catering director, and food pantry director. She founded several charitable organizations including Kid’s Kitchen. Recognized by the Louisiana governor for her dedicated community service, Pigott is an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She consulted with teachers and counselors for this book.

Kathy Schrenk, The Case of the Left-Handed Trombone

The French Quarter Festival in New Orleans is just around the corner, and instruments of famous local musicians are disappearing! A detective has her nephew, with his pet pig, help gather clues. This odd pair visits many Quarter landmarks as they search for the culprit, in this chapter book perfect for junior sleuths.

New Orleans native Kathleen Schrenk has been pursuing her passion for volunteering since 2001. She received her bachelor’s degree in speech and language pathology from Louisiana State University and went on to work as a speech therapist and classroom teacher. Following Hurricane Katrina, Schrenk worked actively with volunteer groups to replant marsh grass in City Park and to restore sand dunes on the coast. A founding member of NOLA City Bark dog park, Schrenk also serves on the Louisiana SPCA board and is a member of the Society of Children's Books Writers and Illustrators.
