This event is free of charge and is open to the public. Horgan grew up in a bilingual community on the edge of the Irish-Speaking (Gaeltacht) area of Baile ‘n Sceilg, Waterville, on the Ring of Kerry in Southwest Ireland. Her childhood was steeped in the tradition of Irish music, song, dance and culture. She changed direction in the mid-90s when she studied for a post-graduate certificate in jazz and popular music at the Leeds College of Music. Her work encompassed a broad sweep of ensembles from duo work to Big Band and a 20-strong pop band. While at college, Horgan led The Lilting Banshees, a six-piece folk band, appearing at festivals in France and the United Kingdom. Based in South Kerry for the past decade, Horgan divides her time between her work as a performer and a teacher. She is in the process, as her mother did before her, of reviving old archival recordings of Traditional Irish songs from the immediate area. Her third album will focus exclusively on the Traditional Irish songs of Iveragh.
