The Lagvanec Lecture - The History of Armenia

 Cyril Lagvanec, PhD, the curator of the American-Italian Research Library located on the second floor of the East Bank Regional Library, will give a lecture on the history of modern Armenia, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.

This event is free of charge and open to the public. There is no registration.

Armenia is a nation, and former Soviet republic, in the mountainous Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. It is among the earliest of Christian civilizations. During this presentation, Dr. Lagvanec will discuss the following historical timeline.
• Ottoman rule and transition from Iranian to Russian rule Second Constitution Era (1908–1914)
• World War I and Armenian genocide (1914–1918)
• First Republic of Armenia (1918–1920)
• Soviet Armenia and the Armenian diaspora (1920–1991)
• World War II (1939–1945)
• Cold War (1946–1987)
• Karabakh conflict and independence of Armenia (1987–1988)
• Levon Ter-Petrosyan presidency (1991–1998)
• Robert Kocharyan presidency (1998–2008)
• Serzh Sargsyan presidency (2008–2018)
• Nikol Pashinyan premiership (2018-present)

Cyril Lagvanec earned his undergraduate degree in history from Baylor University, his master’s degree in British and European History from Tulane University, and his doctoral degree in American History from Texas A&M University. Through his career, Dr. Lagvanec has taught at Jesuit High School, Tulane, Loyola, Delgado, Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, East Carolina University, and Texas A&M.
