 Mark Yakich, the Gregory F. Curtin, S.J. Distinguished Professor of English at Loyola University New Orleans, will discuss poetry at 6 p.m., Monday, April 19, via video conference online. Visit www.jplibrary.net/adults for more details, including how to join the discussion.

Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives.

Yakich is Director of the Center for Editing and Publishing. He is the author of Unrelated Individuals Forming a Group Waiting to Cross, The Making of Collateral Beauty, Green Zone New Orleans, The Importance of Peeling Potatoes in Ukraine, Checking In/Checking Out, A Meaning for Wife and Poetry: A Survivor's Guide.

With Christopher Schaberg, he is also co-founder and co-editor of airplanereading.org, a new media project that aims to rejunvenate airplane reading. In spring 2012, Yakich was a Fulbright Fellow in the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon.
